It is with great pleasure and pride that we launch the first edition of our quarterly alumni newsletter to SIT’s pioneer batch of alumni. One of the best parts of my job at SIT is the opportunity to meet and engage with so many of you during your time here. This newsletter is designed to continue this interaction and to keep you updated on what goes on in SIT, even after you have graduated.

Being Alumni
Engagement is of such importance that I am also proud to announce a new SIT Alumni Office set up to enhance your value as an SIT graduate. The office will put together opportunities for you to meet industry partners, offer career development counselling and set up industry mentorships. This is only the start.

Ultimately, you will be a part of an ever-growing community of SIT alumni. Your support keeps SIT a thriving, vibrant community beyond the few short years you spend with us as a student. We have started the ball rolling by coming up with an Alumni Engagement Survey where you can lend your voice to the kinds of programmes and services you would like to receive as a pioneer SIT alumni. This is a great chance for you to tell us how we can best engage you with the kinds of things that interest you most.

Growth and renewal
Even for those of you who have been holed away furiously studying for your final exams, you would have heard Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s announcement at the National Day Rally 2012. SIT will be Singapore’s fifth university. Needless to say, we are extremely excited to be part of Singapore’s efforts to build a versatile framework of education by growing more educational pathways.

Graduation celebrations
By now, you would have received an invitation to the SIT Graduation Ceremony, which will take place next year on 11 January 2013. This is a special event which celebrates the completion of your undergraduate studies and we look forward to commemorating the occasion with you. There will also be a post-graduation party, exactly one week after your graduation ceremony, where you can let your hair down and celebrate.

As our pioneer graduates, I have high hopes that you will excel in the work force as our best brand ambassadors. We hope that you will look back fondly at your learning experience at SIT and will stay in touch with your course colleagues.

I very much look forward to hearing from you and to welcoming you back again as alumni.

I am happy to introduce Professor Tan Thiam Soon, who will take over as SIT’s second President from 1 February 2013 as I return to Singapore Management University after completing my 3 year secondment to SIT as its first President. Professor Tan was the Vice-Provost (Education) at NUS, and left a tenured position in the NUS Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering to helm SIT. He will inherit the arduous task of transiting SIT into a full-fledged university. I have every confidence that Professor Tan Thiam Soon will take SIT to greater heights and achievements.
